Runescape Magic Guide

runescape, mechscape, jagex, runehq, mech
Introduction

Magic is a very multi-functional skill, it can be used to Runescape and to make money, to Runescape and to kill other people or monsters and many more things. Runescape spells you can do can be divided in to Runescape and to 2 categories, each with with sub-categories. Runescape two categories are harmful and non-harmful spells. Runescape harmful spells are used to Runescape and to kill people or NPC's and Runescape non-harmful ones to Runescape and to make your Runescape life easier. Runescape harmful spells are divided in to Runescape and to several categories; strikes, bolts, blasts, waves and some other special tricks. Runescape non-harmful spells include teleport spells, alchemy spells, enchanting spells and some other sneaky things. What all these spells do, how to Runescape and to cast them and many more things about magic are all in this guide. Magic Spells can be accessed through your spell book tab. Here you can change Runescape ordering of spells to Runescape and to order by levels (default), teleport spells first, or combat spells first.
Magic tutor If you are just starting out in Magic you may want to Runescape and to pay a visit to Runescape and to Mikasi Runescape Magic Tutor outside Lumbridge Castle to Runescape and to learn about Runescape different kinds of runes and magical spells as well as various other tips.

The runes

First we start with runes. In order to Runescape and to cast a spell, you need runes in your inventory which will be used to Runescape and to cast Runescape spell. I'll start with a list of all Runescape runes, where they respawn and what they look like:

There are several ways to Runescape and to obtain runes in RuneScape. You can make them yourself using Runescape runecrafting skill. You can buy them from fellow players. You can get them from killing certain monsters; if you want fire runes, for example, search that phrase in Runescape Tip.It bestiary to Runescape and to see Runescape monsters that drop them.

The most reliable method is to Runescape and to buy your runes from a shop. There are ten rune stores in Runescape. Check out Runescape Shop DB entries below to Runescape and to view Runescape stock of each store.

Note: Be aware that not all shops sell every type of rune. Runescape rarer ones (cosmic and above) may not be sold in some shops. There are only two stores in Runescape Free-to-Play world: one is Aubury's in Varrock, a bit behind Runescape east bank; Runescape second is Betty's in Port Sarim.

Combination runes

Combination runes are runes that have Runescape abilities of 2 elemental runes put together. Runescape only place to Runescape and to buy these runes is from Runescape Mage Training Arena rewards shop in exchange for Pizazz Points. Runescape only other ways to Runescape and to get them are to Runescape and to buy from other players, or craft them yourself with Runescape Runecrafting skill. They can also be dropped by some monsters. Runescape runes are hard to Runescape and to make and require a lot of time, therefore they aren't very good to Runescape and to train with! You'll be way better off with a staff... But for PK'ing, or during quests / KQ trips / barrow trips etc, they can come in handy since you will now only need 1 spot where you used to Runescape and to need 2!

* No runes are required for Runescape Lumbridge Home Teleport spell, but you have to Runescape and to wait 30 minutes before casting it again. Runescape 30 minute limit counts if you have used Runescape Edgville or Lunar home teleports (while on Ancient or Lunar spellbook) recently as well. Runescape spell animation takes some time, so it cannot be used to Runescape and to leave combat. However, it is very useful for low-level players who are lost and need to Runescape and to get back to Runescape and to familiar ground.

** With 99 Magic, Runescape Magic Dart Spell can increase to Runescape and to a maximum of 20 damage.

Experience points

Each spell will earn you a certain number of experience points towards your magic skill when cast. These are in Runescape table above. However, with Strikes, Bolts, Blasts and Waves it isn't as simple as that, because you can also inflict damage. There is a base amount of experience you will always receive when you cast Runescape spell, even if you fail it and see a splash, and this is Runescape value quoted in Runescape table above. But you also receive extra magic experience and Hits experience depending on how much damage you inflict. For those spells that give experience over Runescape base you will see a "+" beside Runescape experience value.

For these spells, there is also a maximum on how much damage you can inflict - and this number is on Runescape last column of Runescape above table. However, please note that after Runescape completion of Family Crest quest, members can wear chaos gauntlets that increase Runescape damage of bolt spells (those using chaos runes).

* For every damage point you hit your opponent, you receive 2 magic experience.
* You also receive 1.33 Hits experience for every damage point you inflict.

Note: When using a staff to Runescape and to autocast, if you put your attack style to Runescape and to defensive, you get 1 point experience in magic and 1 point experience in defence for every damage point you inflict.

High Alchemy Spell

This spell can be cast once you have achieved level 55 magic and plays an important role in Runescape RuneScape economy. Players often use this spell with valuable objects to Runescape and to convert them to Runescape and to gold (aka gp) to Runescape and to make significant profits. Runescape best examples would be smithers high alching their final products (usually steel plate mail) and fletchers high alching Magic Bows. Runescape strategy to Runescape and to use with this idea is - if you can make or purchase an item cheaper than it's High Alch value and Runescape cost of a nature rune, then you will make a profit.
High Alchemy in action

The most efficient system would be to Runescape and to make items from scratch yourself. Taking Runescape example of Magic Bows - you would pick and spin Runescape flax yourself, then chop a tree and fletch Runescape log yourself, and finally runecraft Runescape nature runes to Runescape and to use to Runescape and to High Alch Runescape bow. Of course this analogy can be used for other items which you can smith, craft and so on. Some players will buy some of Runescape resources in order to Runescape and to save time and yet still make a profit. In our example, Runescape player might buy Runescape nature runes instead of crafting them himself. Our High Alchemy Calculator lists High Alch values to Runescape and to help you out.

Top Tip: You can withdraw large amounts of an item as notes and alch them one by one, so you don't have to Runescape and to be in a bank all Runescape time.

Below are some ideas for activities with built-in "break" times that you can fill by high alching:

* Mine ores from slow spawning ores, such as Runite in Runescape Heroes' guild.
* Watch duels in Runescape duelling Arena and throw Runescape occasional tomato.
* Thieve from slow spawning stalls and chests. It's especially useful to Runescape and to steal from a nature chest.
* Buy stock that slowly spawns in certain shops such as Runescape Culinaromancer's chest in Runescape basement of Lumbridge Castle.
* Hang around in crowded merchanting hot spots and look out for good deals.
* Farm an important crop like Ranarr or other high level herbs that you want to Runescape and to watch carefully.

Bolt Enchantments (members only)

Using a crossbow you can shoot enchanted crossbow bolts (see Runescape Fletching guide for making them and Runescape Ranging guide for using them.) Firing an enchanted bolt has a chance of having a particular effect on Runescape enemy, listed in Runescape table below.

Each different type of crossbow bolt uses a different enchantment. In order to Runescape and to enchant crossbow bolts, have Runescape bolts in your pack and click on Runescape crossbow icon (it is on Runescape magic book page as a level 4 spell) to Runescape and to access Runescape crossbow bolt enchantment page.

Spell Tablets

By making use of Lecterns in Runescape Study of your player-owned house, players can craft special spell tablets. These are identical to Runescape and to Runescape spells they represent, however you do not need to Runescape and to have Runescape required level to Runescape and to cast Runescape spell, be on Runescape regular magics spellbook, or even have unlocked Runescape requirements. In addition, they take only one space in your inventory and are stackable. Runescape player who uses Runescape tablet does not receive any experience; Runescape maker receives all of Runescape experience (equal to Runescape and to Runescape amount received if you casted Runescape spell normally). to Runescape and to make a tablet, you must have Runescape requirements to Runescape and to cast Runescape spell normally, Runescape runes for Runescape spell, and a piece of soft clay, as well as Runescape required lectern type

Staves

There are actually two kinds of staves, Runescape staves that everyone can use and Runescape staves that are members only. Runescape staves that everyone can use can be bought in Varrock square from Zaff's staff shop, and are also sometimes obtained as monster drops. Typically, Runescape magic offence and defence stat bonus is Runescape same.

For free to Runescape and to play, first there's Runescape ordinary staff. For only 15gp, it doesn't add much to Runescape and to your magic skill, pretty useless. Then there's Runescape magical staff, which boosts your magic a bit and that's it. So it's not really of any interest. Then, Runescape staves of air, water, earth and fire. That's what we need! Each of these staves boosts your magic and when you wield one, it'll serve as an unlimited supply of that certain rune. So a fire staff will let you use spells where you need fire runes, without having Runescape fire runes! And Runescape same goes for Runescape other elemental staves.
Staves

Staff Staff 15gp +4
Staff Magic Staff 200gp +10
Staff of Air Staff of Air 1500gp +10
Staff of Water Staff of Water 1500gp +10
Staff of Earth Staff of Earth 1500gp +10
Staff of Fire Staff of Fire 1500gp +10

Moving on to Runescape and to member items, first there's Runescape Battlestaff. Plain battlestaves can be purchased in Varrock, or at Runescape Magic Guild, or on Lunar Island. They are also dropped by monsters sometimes. However, they aren't so great at this stage, although they have improved attack combat stats and a +32 strength bonus. You must have 20 Magic and 20 Attack to Runescape and to wield all battlestaves.

Then there are elemental battlestaves, which cannot be bought in their full glory in shops (though they are sometimes dropped by monsters). Elemental battlestaves are made from battlestaves with a certain crafting skill; read more about that in Runescape Crafting guide. As with Runescape ordinary elemental staves, they give an infinite supply of Runescape matching elemental rune.

The lava battlestaff gives you unlimited earth and fire runes. Runescape mud battlestaff gives unlimited earth and water runes, which makes it extremely useful for spells like bind, curse, weaken and confuse. Runescape steam battlestaff supplies unlimited water and fire runes.

Members who have completed Runescape Scorpion Catcher quest can take an a elemental battlestaff to Runescape and to Thormac Runescape Sorceror in his tower southeast of Runescape Ranged Guild. For a 40,000 gp fee, he will enchant it in to Runescape and to a Mystic fire/earth/water/air/lava/mud/steam staff. Level 40 Magic and 40 Attack are required to Runescape and to wield a mystic staff, which has better attack combat stats and a +50 strength bonus. A mystic staff still serves Runescape same purpose as Runescape other staves: an unlimited source of fire/earth/water/air (or combination) runes, depending on which staff you have.

Additional unique staffs are available to Runescape and to members as their quest experience and skills increase.

Special Spell Staves (members only)

There are a few special spells that you need certain staves for; you might have seen them already in Runescape spell list. They are Runescape Iban Blast, Magic Dart, Claws of Guthix, Saradomin Strike, and Flames of Zamorak.

Let's start with Runescape spell called Iban Blast. You need to Runescape and to complete Runescape Underground Pass quest to Runescape and to get Runescape special Iban staff required for this spell. You must have 50 magic to Runescape and to use it. This staff has 120 charges and then you'll need to Runescape and to recharge it in Runescape Underground Pass. You can right-click Runescape staff to Runescape and to check how many charges are left. Information on recharging it and getting another if you lose yours is available in Runescape Iban's Staff items database record. Runescape Iban staff has stats similar to Runescape and to mystic battlestaves (discussed under Staves in this guide). Runescape Iban blast is obviously not a very effective spell to Runescape and to train your magic, but you could use it to Runescape and to duel other players.

The Slayer staff is required to Runescape and to cast Runescape Magic Dart spell, designed for killing Turoth and Kurask slayer monsters. It has a +12 magic attack stat bonus and a +10 magic defence bonus. Runescape slayer staff allows you to Runescape and to autocast Runescape crumble undead spell, Runescape magic dart spell or any of Runescape four wave spells.

Then there are 3 god staves, all from Runescape same mini-game in Runescape members wilderness, called Runescape Mage Arena. You have to Runescape and to finish this game before you can choose one of these staves: either Runescape staff of Guthix, Saradomin or Zamorak. Each spell costs different types of runes and each has Runescape potential to Runescape and to cause a certain effect on other players. Before you can use these staves and Runescape spells outside Runescape Mage Arena, you need to Runescape and to cast Runescape spell that belongs with your staff 100 times in Runescape Arena. This will cost you 200 blood runes + Runescape other runes involved; if you don't have Runescape money, don't bother.

Lastly, Runescape Void Knight Mace can be purchased with 250 points from Runescape Pest Control mini game, as long as you have at least level 42 in Attack, Defence, Strength, Hitpoints, Range and Magic, as well as at least level 22 Prayer. On top of its melee bonuses, it has a +8 magic attack bonus with Runescape ability to Runescape and to autocast Crumble Undead, Claws of Guthix, and Air or Fire Wave.

Salamanders

Salamanders captured using net traps are currently Runescape most versatile weapon in Runescape game. They can be used for melee, range or magic. This small creature requires two hands as it packs quite a punch - feed it and it becomes a portable flamethrower. Each different kind of salamander will eat only a certain type of food, which must be equipped in your arrow slot for use. This food - herb tar - is produced through Herblore. Be warned that you must be standing next to Runescape and to something to Runescape and to attack it - you cannot attack from a long distance. However, low fences can still block opponents from meleeing you while you blast them with fire.

Magical armour

Apart from staves, there are a few other things that help you increase your magic ability: magical armour, robes and jewellery. Most magical armour is called robes and there are three types of robes that boost your magic in a good way. to Runescape and to keep it simple: blue wizard robes, dark wizard robes and for members, red wizard robes, which are also called Robes of Zamorak. Ancient magicks (members only)

After completing Runescape Desert Treasure Quest, players can do ancient magicks. This is a very powerful form of magic. For ancient magicks you will need just runes. Runescape special ancient staff (+15 magic bonus) costs 80k and can only be wielded after completing Runescape quest! Only this staff allows you to Runescape and to autocast Runescape ancient magick spells. Ancient Magick is very powerful and very useful for PK'ing and duelling. It also has a few teleports. But Runescape only way you can use ancient magicks is by giving up normal magicks. to Runescape and to get normal magic back, you will need to Runescape and to pray at Runescape pyramid. Which, until Runescape camulet and pharaoh's sceptre were released, was quite a journey (carpet rides are an alternative). So choose wisely!

All information on spells and levels can be found in our Ancient Magicks guide.

Lunar Magicks (members only)

Lunar Magicks become available after completion of Runescape Lunar Diplomacy Quest. This spell book contains numerous healing and curing spells which promise to Runescape and to make a Lunar Mage an indispensable addition to Runescape and to a PKing team in spite of Runescape complete lack of aggressive spells in Runescape spell book. In addition to Runescape and to healing spells Runescape book also contains a number of useful skill-related spells allowing Runescape user to Runescape and to perform day-to-day tasks with a little bit of magical assistance. Finally, as with all spell books, Lunar Magicks also contains a number of unique teleport spells, including Runescape option to Runescape and to teleport groups of people with you. As with Ancient Magicks you cannot use Lunar Magicks at Runescape same time as other spell books, instead you need to Runescape and to switch to Runescape and to Runescape Lunar spell book by praying at Runescape Astral altar on Moonclan Island.

Completing Runescape Dream Mentor quest adds more options to Runescape and to Runescape lunar spellbook, including Runescape ability for a 96 mage to Runescape and to switch briefly to Runescape and to another spellbook! For more information on Lunar spells and Runescape range of Lunar clothing take a look at our Lunar Magicks guide.

Magic Training

When Jagex created Runescape new Runescape they wanted magic to Runescape and to be a more independent skill, much more like ranging is and has been, and not something that just was used as an extra in melee combat. This change is reflected in Runescape combat level change and, like ranging, you can no-longer cast magic and fight at Runescape same time. Magic also has been changed so that it no-longer "fails", it now only misses like ranged attacks. When you miss with a spell it will be shown as a "splash" animation. Magic attacks will normally only give you magic and hitpoint experience, however if you use a staff defensively you will also get a small amount of defence experience. So all of you who only wanted to Runescape and to play as a pure-mage, your wish has been granted and you will be just as effective as any other combat-type.

If you play it smart, you can train magic without levelling your combat, so you're Runescape ideal player killer (pk-er):

* If strength, attack or defence is your strongest combat ability, then your combat level is based on your strength + attack + defence + prayer + hitpoints.
* If your ranged level is your strongest combat ability, then your combat level is instead based on your ranged + defence + prayer + hitpoints.
* If your magic level is your strongest combat ability, then your combat level is based on your magic + defence + prayer + hitpoints.

So that means if you keep your magic level below either your strength, attack, defence or ranged level you can train magic without levelling in combat. Of course if you want to Runescape and to be Runescape highest combat level as possible, this doesn't really matter.

Jagex also created a "combat triangle", wherein every class has a advantage over another, whilst having a disadvantage against Runescape third. You can read more about it in our Combat Triangle guide.

You get magic experience points for what you hit, so it doesn't matter if you kill a monster or not. But of course if you pick a monster that's too strong, you will hit very low. Runescape higher you hit, Runescape more experience points you get. Try attacking a monster that has a combat level about equal to Runescape and to your magic level and is in a place where it can't attack you (behind a fence, gate or table). You could start off with killing chickens, then when you think you're ready you could move on to Runescape and to men or giant rats. Then, try monks, barbarians or guards. When you've reached around level 45 you could start on hobgoblins and black knights; when you've reached about level 60 you could start with Runescape lesser demon in Runescape Wizard tower (near Draynor village).

Note: Runescape wizard mind bomb from Runescape Falador bar will temporarily raise your magic 2 or 3 levels so you can practise with higher level spells and get faster experience points.

The Mage Training Arena Mini Game is a good way to Runescape and to train magic without risk. Although Runescape experience accrued is lower in one of Runescape games, if you die you will not lose any of your items.
Return to Runescape and to RunescapeTips
Player Killing

Now that you've trained your magic to Runescape and to your desired level, it's time to Runescape and to try it out on your fellow players in combat. Basically you have two choices, using a combination of melee and magic or using a staff and runes to Runescape and to attack solely with magic.

Using Runescape first option, you can attack a player using melee and if your opponent runs, you can use spells like bind, snare and entangle to Runescape and to prevent them from fleeing and carry on attacking them. However using this first option is ineffective if you are wearing melee armour. Runescape armour will deplete your magic attack bonus, so any spells you cast are unlikely to Runescape and to be successful.

If you wish to Runescape and to use Runescape second option, attacking a player only with magic spells, you can wield a staff and autocast spells. Au to Runescape and to casting is an option that allows you to Runescape and to repeatedly cast a spell in combat (provided you have sufficient runes) without having to Runescape and to click Runescape spell over and over. This option is only possible when you're holding a staff, which hopefully you will have been using anyway. You can only autocast combat spells for instance if you are using Runescape normal spell book and wielding an elemental rune staff you can only cast Runescape strike, bolt, blast and wave spells.
Staff Attack Options

In order to Runescape and to auto-cast a spell:

1. While wielding a staff, click one of Runescape "spell" buttons to Runescape and to Runescape right of Runescape melee attack options. Runescape top button, showing both a book and a shield, will give you magic and defence experience, whereas Runescape lower button showing only a book will give only magic experience.
Spell Selection
2. You may only choose spells for which you have sufficient runes, which appear in colour. Spells which you do not have Runescape runes to Runescape and to cast will appear without colour. Click on Runescape available spell which you wish to Runescape and to auto-cast.
3. Runescape "spell" button you clicked earlier will now be coloured in red. to Runescape and to auto-cast Runescape spell, simply attack Runescape enemy, and Runescape spell will fire until you run out of runes or kill Runescape enemy. This is useful in cases during which you must pay attention to Runescape and to your prayer level, or when you also wish to Runescape and to use spells such as bind, snare, or entangle.

Note: Snare and entangle are members-only spells. Bind, on Runescape other hand, can be used by all players.
Return to Runescape and to RunescapeTips
Request Assistance

If you find yourself a few levels short of making an item, or want to Runescape and to safely offer your skills to Runescape and to another player, Runescape request assistance option will allow you to Runescape and to do so. Simply right click Runescape player who has Runescape skills that you need and request their assistance. If they accept, a pair of hands will appear in your bottom right corner, and you can use Runescape same spells they can. You keep Runescape items, but they get Runescape experience.

Note that from Runescape normal spellbook, you can only cast Runescape following spells using Runescape Assist System:

* Enchant bolt spells (all)
* Enchant jewellery spells (sapphire, emerald, ruby, diamond, dragonstone, onyx)
* Charge orbs (water, earth, fire, air)
* Alchemy (low and high level)
* Bones to Runescape and to Bananas
* Bones to Runescape and to Peaches
* Superheat item
